Terms
Last updated November 1, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Held For Us LLC (“we”), which runs Held For Us. By creating an account you agree to them and to our Privacy page.
What Held For Us is
Held For Us lets you write a promise to yourself, with the reason behind it, and have it handed back to you later: on a date, at an age, or when a moment you describe has happened.
Who can use it
You must be at least 18 to use Held For Us.
Your account
You are responsible for your password and for what happens in your account. Keep your email address working, because we use it to send sign in and password reset links. If you lose access to both your email and your password, we may not be able to restore your account.
Membership and payment
- Membership is a one time payment of $99. It is not a subscription and does not renew.
- It includes 3 promises in each 12 month period, counted from the day you pay. Your 3 refresh every 12 months after that.
- An extra promise, when we offer it, costs $9.99.
- Payments are handled by Stripe.
Refunds
If Held For Us is not right for you, email us within 30 days of paying and we will refund your membership in full. After that, payments are not refundable, except where the law says otherwise.
Your promises belong to you
What you write is yours. You give us permission to store it, encrypt it, and deliver it back to you, and nothing more. We do not read it, so we cannot check it. You are responsible for what you write, and you agree not to use Held For Us to store anything unlawful or to threaten or harm anyone.
How delivery works
- A promise set for a date becomes available on that date. A promise set for an age becomes available on the birthday that reaches that age, using the birth date you gave us.
- A promise that waits for an event is only delivered when you tell us it has happened. We check in with you about once every six months.
- We email you a short notice when a promise arrives. If the email does not reach you, the promise is still waiting in your account.
- You can always open a sealed promise early. It stays in your register, marked as opened early.
What Held For Us is not
A promise here is a personal note. It is not a will, a contract, or any legal document, and it does not bind anyone. Held For Us is also not a crisis or mental health service. If you are in danger or thinking about hurting yourself, call or text 988 in the United States.
If we change or close the service
We may change Held For Us over time. If we ever decide to close it, we will give you at least 60 days notice by email and a way to get your promises out first.
Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time in Settings. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts the service or other people at risk.
No guarantees
We work hard to keep Held For Us running and your promises safe, but we provide it as it is, and we cannot promise it will never be interrupted or free of errors. Promises are meant to last for years, and no online service can guarantee that.
Limit of our responsibility
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not responsible for indirect or consequential losses, and our total responsibility to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us. Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will email you before the change takes effect.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York.
